More than sixteen years of experience in the field of conflict resolution as a mediator, facilitator, trainer, consultant and administrator. Established independent practice in 1994 assisting law firms and their clients, the business community and the public and non-profit sectors.
Mediation experience includes:
Employment, labor and workplace matters:
§ Discrimination complaints in the public and private sectors involving claims of race, age, sexual discrimination, disabilities, whistle blowing, retaliation and ERISA violations. These have been in settings including manufacturing, media/publishing, marketing, hospitals and health care, academia, banking, hospitality, insurance, automobile, law enforcement and other business environments.
§ Collective bargaining agreements, panelist for Connecticut State Department of Education Teacher Negotiation Act.
§ Contracted mediator for US Equal Opportunity Employment Commission and United States Postal Service (REDRESS and REDRESS II).
§ Dysfunctional workplace/intra-organizational disputes involving state and municipal agencies and elected boards in situations that have involved three to twenty disputing parties.
Commercial, business and debtor/creditor disputes including:
§ Post-closing valuation issues on the purchase and sale of businesses.
§ Issues involving family held businesses and property.
§ Secured transactions for manufacturing equipment.
Personal injury disputes including automobile, premises liability, and posttraumatic stress claims.
Professional claims including medical privileges issues and design professional malpractice.
Other matters including construction claims and environmental matters.
Facilitator and member of small consensus building team for the reconfiguration of public health, mental health and substance abuse functions of Connecticut agencies.
Facilitated discussions pursuant to the federal Clean Air Act for employee commute options for Connecticut state employees.
Training:
Received basic and advanced training in mediation.
Designed and acted as co-lead trainer for 40-hour mediator certificate program sponsored by the University of Connecticut’s Labor Education Center and the Quinnipiac Law School Center on Dispute Resolution since 1995.
Conducted settlement and mediation skills training programs for staff of the Connecticut Judicial Branch and Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
Conducted seminars and workshops for bar, industry and educational groups. These include Connecticut Bar Association, Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution, American Leadership Forum, AmeriCorps Volunteers, Connecticut Hospital Association, Association of Independent Schools of New England and others.
